Can you volunteer at an animal shelter for DofE?
Opportunity Finder During your DofE programme, you will volunteer for as little as one hour a week for a minimum of three months, but this can change depending on your role and how much time you can give. We have a number of interesting and impactful ways you can spend your time.
What can I do for my DofE volunteering?

Do Cats Protection put cats down?
Our vision is to ensure that every cat is given the chance of a life where it will be treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. To improve people’s understanding of cats and their care. Our policy on euthanasia: Cats Protection does not euthanase healthy cats.
Are rescue cats free UK?
The adoption fee varies for different branches and centres. Some may have to pay more for veterinary treatment than others, and some have higher costs in looking after cats. The adoption fee goes towards paying some of the cost of your cat’s health check, neutering and vaccinations.

We don’t have an upper age limit, but you’ll need to be 14 years or over for most of our roles, and you’ll have to be older than this for others.
Do cats feel pain when put to sleep?
All your cat feels is a tiny prick of the needle – then the injection is painless. Death occurs within a couple of minutes when the heart stops beating. It may take a little longer if your animal is very ill or has poor circulation.
Can I bury my cat in the garden?
Home burial Some people prefer to take their cat home to bury in the garden. There is no formal planning required for burying a cat at the home it lived in as long as you own the land and the vet has said that there is no risk to other animals or people.

Can 12 year olds volunteer at animal shelter UK?
Who can volunteer? Anyone can volunteer. We value diversity and encourage volunteers from all sections of the community. Unfortunately, there are limited opportunities for anyone who is under 16 years of age and some restrictions apply in relation to opportunities for under 18’s.
Can a 14 year old volunteer in a charity shop?
We accept volunteers from the age of 14 but all under 18 year olds must have the consent of a parent or guardian.
