Does a 3-pin work for PWM?
PWM Mode only – the header puts out exactly the signals for a standard 4-pin fan system header and is using PWM Mode. This can provide power to both fan types, but it can NOT control the speed of a 3-pin fan – that fan will run full speed all the time.
How many watts can Molex support?
The ATX standard for SATA or Molex connections is rated for 54 watts. Each SATA/Molex connector provides three 12v pins at 1.5 amps each, for a total of 4.5 amps. 12 volts, times 4.5 amps, equals 54 watts able to be provided by a SATA/Molex connector.
Can you connect 3 fans to Molex?
You can daisy chain a number of fans together. You can also plug 3-pin fans into most(all?) 4-pin headers. The key on the connector works so that will fit and just leave out a pin.
Can Molex power fans?
Plug it into the molex adapter on the PSU, plug your fans in, and they run. 10/10 for doing what it says it will. Note: 3-pin slot, with 2 actual pins.
What voltage is Molex?
Molex power comes from the 12v rail. The LED strip will probably be a little dimmer than usual with 9v.
Does Molex use 12V?
These supplied +5V, +12V, −5V, −12V, “power-good signal”, and ground. The most notable difference from modern 20/24-pin ATX power connectors is that the AT power supply connector did not have a signal to turn on the power supply, and also did not supply separate, “always-on” +5V standby power.
Can you stack molex fans?
It will be fine.
Can you connect molex fans to motherboard?
1) yes. 2) A motherboard fan header usually has a limited amperage capability. One fan is probably OK.
Do molex fans run at full speed?
Yes, on molex they will run at 12volts witch is the maximum of a normal desktop fan (producing the maximum speed).
Can you control fan speed with molex?
If the fans will run suitably at 5v, one option is to simply rewire the fan’s molex connector to connect to the 5v line instead of the 12v one. This will typically make a case fan nearly silent, though it will be running notably slower, and in turn moving less air.
Does Molex carry more power than SATA?
Technically Molex can carry much more power than the SATA power connector. Molex has 2 power pins (one 5V and on 12V pin), each can deliver 11Amps for a total of 22Amps. The other 2 pins are ground wires… SATA power connectors has a total of 15 pins of which 9 are power pins (3 x 3.3V, 3 x 5V, 3 x 12V).
Does Molex use 12V rail?
A “Molex” 4 pin power connector or a SATA power connector do carry 12V multiple amps regularly. How consistent the 12V rail is depends on the load and quality of the power supply, but you shouldn’t have any issue with that. If this is in an active computer, it will only work when the computer is on.
Can you control Molex fan speed?
You cannot change its speed if the fan is connected to a PSU (Power Supply Unit) through a Molex Fan Connector. However, if the fans are connected to the motherboard, either with 3-pin or 4-pin, these third-party applications can control the fans’ speed with a click of a button.
Can you daisy chain Molex?
you should have no problems at all with just 4. This vary’s I believe depending if you are daisy chaining directly to the PSU or to a motherboard fan header.
Can I connect case fan with Molex?
To do this, plug the fan into your computer’s power supply. The fan will contain either a male or female Molex connector, and sometimes both. The male connector is larger and slides over the female connector. If your fan has both types of connectors, you need only connect one of the two to the power supply.
Can I plug fans into PSU?
Yes. Those fans are either/or. You can use either the 3-pin motherboard connector or the 4-pin molex direct from the power supply.
Can I connect molex to motherboard?
You can hook the fans up with either the molex connection or the connection to the motherboard. They are there to give people the option in case their motherboard does not have the connections. If you go with the molex connections you will not be able to control the fan speeds from within the system.
