While many car owners start with a stage 1 remap before progressing to stage 2, this isn’t necessary, and you can theoretically take your car for whichever stage of ECU remapping you want – when trying to find the best remap company in your area, try asking garages if they can do a stage 2 or 3 remap on a stock car.

Can you Demap a car?
Technically, modifying any part of a car can invalidate some or all elements of a manufacturer or approved used warranty. In most cases however, no physical modification will be made to your ECU as the remap can be uploaded via the OBD port.
Can you pass smog with a tune?
As long as the ECU tune is approved through the California Air Resources Board Executive Order, the vehicle will still legally pass the test. There are several companies who offer ECU tunes that comply with the Executive Order.
Why did Apr remove Stage 2?
APR has discontinued Stage 2 tunes and downpipes after being bought out by a larger company, as they not comply with US emissions regulations.
