Why was the Dr Chau Chak Wing building built?
The “Dr” in the building’s name refers to honorary doctorates that have been conferred on Mr Chau. The 13-storey tower provides teaching, learning, research and office accommodation for, approximately, 1,256 students and 326 academic staff. The building’s design is based on the idea of a tree-house structure.

Constructed between 1959 and 1973, the Opera House was built in three stages: Stage I (1959-1963) consisted of building the upper podium; Stage II (1963-1967) the construction of the outer shells; Stage III (1967-1973) interior design and construction.
