What paint do you use to paint the outside of a caravan?
After speaking to various train, boat and motor enthusiasts, I decided to do as they all suggested and use Tekaloid — or coach enamel paint. I have written a whole post on what paint to use on the outside of a caravan, but in a nutshell this is it.
What paint should I use on Aluminium caravan?

If the exterior of your caravan is aluminium, then you have two main options when it comes to painting it. The most durable one is Resene Armourcote 221 and Resene Uracryl – or, for an easier option, use Resene Galvo-Prime and Resene Summit Roof.

first use a good quality paint stripper and wire wool + turps to clean the surface and get rid of old paint ,even a good jet wash should lift it off ,then throughly de-grease with meths..the only paint that will adhere properly to grp /fibreglass is a two pot polyurethane type paint .

New member. You could use it but Smooth Hammerite will absorb water after a while and hence could cause more problems than a little. Suggest you use an enamel type paint with either urethane or polyurethane as an ingredient.

Every square millimeter of the finish to be painted will require sanding and prep work. Fill any low spots in the fiberglass. To raise the profile of low spots in the surface, use a fiberglass glazing putty. Work the putty into the low spot, and then sand it away until the area is flush with the rest of the surface.

Without question, my favourite paint to use on the outside of a caravan is coach paint — or Tekaloid. It’s tried and tested and has been around for donkey’s years. It’s what buses, lorries and trains used to be hand-painted with, before the arrival of modern spray-paint.
Is it safe to spray the outside of a caravan?
If you have a large secluded area — either indoor or outdoor — that you could use to safely spray the exterior of your caravan, go for it! I’d advise practicing on large pieces of card before you go ahead and spray the outside of a caravan , as spraying isn’t quite as simple as it looks.

According to the Paintman site, Coach Enamel covers around 7sqm per litre (one coat) when using a brush or roller.
